Harvard Bioscience To Showcase Products at Experimental Biology 2019

All Three Commercial Units to Be Represented

HOLLISTON, Mass., March 26, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Harvard Bioscience, Inc. (Nasdaq: HBIO), a global developer, manufacturer and marketer of a broad range of solutions to advance life science, is presenting new laboratory products and applications for preclinical life science research at Experimental Biology 2019—the annual joint meeting of the American Association of Anatomists, the American Physiological Society, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Society for Investigative Pathology and the American Society for Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics—in Orlando, Florida on April 6-9.

Innovative products from Harvard Bioscience’s three commercial units—Data Sciences International (DSI), Electrophysiology (Ephys) and Physiology, Cell and Molecular Instruments (PCMI)—will be at Booths #1320 (DSI), #1315/1317 (Ephys) and #1319/1321/1323 (PCMI), respectively.

Data Sciences International (DSI) – Booth #1320

DSI is exhibiting new telemetry implants for neuroscience with expanded bandwidth, capable of collecting up to four biopotential channels (typically EEG and EMG), temperature and activity in small and large animals. These enable the collection of stress-free data; telemetry is available for mice, rats and large animals with optional pressure capability. Also exhibited is dual pressure monitoring telemetry: the HD-S20 and HD-S21 gives researchers the ability to monitor two pressures, temperature, activity and one biopotential (with the HD-S21), allowing a more complete physiology assessment from a single animal.

Electrophysiology (Ephys) – Booths #1315/1317

Ephys is exhibiting the Smart Ephys Wireless System, the newest addition to the division’s wireless, tethered and implantable in vivo portfolio. This system combines the advantages of Triangle BioSystems International (TBSI) and Multi Channel Systems (MCS) technology: high channel count recording and digital data acquisition. Also on display is the MEA2100-Beta-Screen-System from MCS, a microelectrode array (MEA) system specifically designed to measure glucose induced electrical activity from intact islets of Langerhans. The use of MEA technology ensures simpler experimental handling and higher throughput than conventional, invasive electrophysiological recording methods. Additionally featured is the VCS Touch Screen Valve Control System from Warner Instruments, the next generation of Warner’s trusted perfusion control system with a 7-inch touch screen for even easier operation of up to 8 pinch, PTFE or mini valves.

Physiology, Cell and Molecular Instruments (PCMI) – Booths #1319/1321/1323

PCMI is exhibiting products used for the advancement of life science research from surgical and fluidics to perfusion systems and electroporation. Harvard Apparatus will be exhibiting a full suite of surgical equipment including anesthesia, ventilators, temperature control and vital signs monitoring. BTX will be exhibiting electroporation systems which enable universal transfection of every cell, tissue and organism, including the latest CRISPR gene editing, high throughput screening, primary and stem cell, and in vivo applications. Also on display will be Panlab/Coulbourn behavioral neuroscience products and Hugo Sachs isolated organ and tissue perfusion systems.

Dean Franklin Young Investigator Award

DSI established the Dean Franklin Young Investigator Award, bestowed annually by the American Physiological Society, in 2012. The intent of the award is to recognize a postdoctoral scientist or junior faculty member pursuing in vivo physiology research and who is in the process of establishing an independent laboratory. The 2019 recipient of the award is Jorge Giani, PhD, an associate professor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Giani will receive a travel award of $1,500 to attend the Experimental Biology meeting, a DSI instrumentation starter kit and a certificate.
